When God Is Preparing You For Your Next (Part 1)

When God Is Preparing You For Your Next (Part 1)

He May Ask You To Heal...

There are seasons in life when we can sense that something is changing.

Something feels different. A door seems to be opening. Opportunities begin to appear. Our prayers sound different because our expectations are different. We begin to believe that God is leading us into something greater—a season of prosperity, abundance, purpose, peace, and fulfillment.

But sometimes, before God transitions us into the next season, He invites us to look back.

Not to live there.

Not to relive the pain.

But to heal from what happened there.

You Cannot Carry Everything From Your Past Into Your Future

We often talk about the importance of faith when stepping into a new season, but we don't always talk about the importance of healing.

Trauma, disappointment, rejection, betrayal, abandonment, grief, failure, and painful experiences can leave impressions on our hearts and minds. Even when we believe we have "moved on," parts of those experiences can remain stored within us.

Sometimes they show up as fear.

Sometimes as mistrust.

Sometimes as the need to control everything.

Sometimes as self-sabotage, insecurity, people-pleasing, perfectionism, or an inability to receive love.

And sometimes, we don't even realize that we're responding to today's circumstances through yesterday's wounds.

God may be opening a new door, but if we enter that door carrying the identity, fear, and expectations created by our past, we may struggle to recognize the blessing when it arrives.

Healing Makes Room for What God Is Doing

There is something powerful about releasing what no longer belongs in your life.

Healing doesn't mean pretending that the past didn't happen. It doesn't mean excusing the people who hurt you. It doesn't mean forgetting what you experienced.

Healing means refusing to allow what happened to have permanent authority over who you are becoming.

The past may explain some of your wounds, but it does not have to define your future.

Isaiah 43:18-19 reminds us:

"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!"

God specializes in new things.

But sometimes we are so familiar with our old circumstances that we become uncomfortable with new ones. We can pray for abundance while still thinking from a mindset of scarcity. We can pray for healthy relationships while expecting everyone to hurt us. We can pray for peace while remaining attached to the chaos we learned to survive.

This is why healing matters.

God isn't simply interested in changing our circumstances. He wants to transform us from the inside out.
